Singin' in the Rain
I enjoyed Singin’ in the Rain. First of all, it was refreshing to finally watch a movie with color. The video quality and the fact that it had color, made the film feel like it came out yesterday. The color also really worked well for this film because I feel so many of the scenes had such vibrant, and nice colors that always set different moods. For example, when Don was singing to Kathy on the set, the moonlight and the pink from the sunset really set a romantic mood. Speaking of singing, it was also really nice to watch a musical. I’d say that I am a fan of musicals, in particular I like “The Greatest Showman” and grew up watching “High School Musical”. Now after watching this movie, I have another new favorite musical to add to the list. The songs in this movie were very catchy and iconic. Of course the song “Singin’ in the rain” has got to be the most iconic one and catchiest too. I was surprised to see that the “good morning” song was in this movie. That’s a song that I’ve heard so many times throughout my life growing up and something my mom would always sing to me when she woke me up for school. Lastly, the I liked the song “moses supposes” . It was just very funny but also very random. Since we’ve been learning the history of film from the beginning, it was cool to see a movie explore how the transition to movies with sound was for hollywood. It’s clear from this movie that there are so many things they had to adapt to, like the squeaking of the floor, dropping things, and awkward silences, that made the transition rough. One thing I'm curious about is watching the “dancing cavalier” movie to see if it actually was good in the end. The dance numbers compared to the final scene in that movie seemed very different.
