Night of the Living Dead
Night of the living dead definitely wasn’t my favorite movie so far but I think I know why. It's because I have seen this movie before through many other movies. This movie was so predictable for me because it was the first one to have so many iconic cliches. For example this movie was the first one to have zombies be flesh eating monsters. Before, they were simply mind controlled humans. This movie also set the idea of a “zombie apocalypse. This is a popular theme in many different zombie movies and shows where there is always a zombie apocalypse and society collapses in order to survive. The humans barricading themselves indoors is also a strategy that I’ve seen so many times. Watching this movie, it felt like I was watching a video of call of duty black ops zombies and the characters kept patching up the windows trying to survive as long as they could. Another thing is how you have to headshot the zombie. Since they are basically already dead, they are basically immortal unless you take out their brain. Lastly for the cliches, humans are usually worse than the zombies. In the movie you can see humans' true nature come out as they try to survive. For example, Ben hits Barbara, Harry doesn’t open the door for Ben, and Ben kills Harry. Lastly, in the final scene you see the cops shoot Ben without a second thought. representing the racism going on at the time. The idea that the humans are worse than the zombies is a popular idea that is relevant in many things like “The Last of Us.” Overall, I wasn't a big fan of the movie because it felt like the most basic zombie movie ever, but that's because it was the first movie to do it, that inspired all the zombie movies in the future. I wish the budget was higher because the cinematography felt a bit off, the acting was a bit weird, and might have been better in color.
