Double Indemnity

This was probably my favorite film so far! This was a great introduction to noir which is a film "genre" that I like because of its dark and moody atmosphere that it has, as it's basically told from the perspective of a criminal/ murderer. The characters in this movie are very complex. Walter is just some normal insurance man but gets so attracted by Phyllis that he is willing to kill her husband with her. Meanwhile Phyllis is a "femme fatale" and is basically in control the entire time, manipulating Walter throughout the film. It's ironic though because as the film goes on, he cares less and less about Phyllis and just cares about getting the insurance money and being free from the situation. What made Phyllis interesting was how this wasn't the first time she killed somebody to get what she wanted, and it makes you wonder how many times she was gonna kill until she stopped. She killed his husband's wife to marry him, she killed his husband because she wanted the money and to be with Walter,  she was gonna kill Walter and her step daughter to be with her step daughter's boyfriend. How far could she go with this? I enjoyed the voice over throughout the film as it is definitely one of the most iconic elements of Noir and definitely influenced many noir films after it. I liked how the film basically started around the same time where it ended, which seems to be a recurring thing in the movies we've been watching such as Citizen Kane. I do feel bad for Keyes who is Walter’s Boss in the film. Other than all the other betrayal that happened in the film, the betrayal that Keyes probably felt from Walter was probably the worst. Keyes was like a father figure to Walter who worked with him for many years and now he had to watch him become a criminal and then die shortly after.
